Key Responsibilities


VAT & Indirect Taxes: Prepare and review UK and Irish VAT returns, Plastic Packaging Tax Returns, and Alcohol Duty reclaims, while evaluating the VAT treatment of new products and promotions.


Employment Taxes: Prepare PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) submissions and advise on Global Mobility, STBV reporting, shadow payrolls, IR35, and Benefits in Kind.


Tax Governance: Support HMRC enquiries, maintain regulatory relationships, participate in internal tax health checks, and support the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) compliance process.


Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in business controls to mitigate financial risk and design practical, proactive solutions.


Cross-Functional Advisory: Act as deputy to the Indirect & Employment Tax Manager, providing guidance, training, and policy interpretation to HR, Finance, and Payroll teams.



Experience & Qualifications


Certification: ATT qualified is required; CTA qualification is highly desirable.


Tax Expertise: Demonstrable experience handling UK taxation, specifically within a strong VAT or indirect tax background.


Project Management: Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and see individual tax duties within a wider business context.


Communication & Leadership: Strong team player with excellent leadership skills and a track record of explaining technical tax issues clearly to non-tax professionals.



Technical Skills Required


  • Advanced corporate VAT and Irish VAT return compliance framework knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of Employment Tax regulations, including IR35 off-payroll working rules.
  • Exposure to Plastic Packaging Tax and Alcohol Duty calculations.
  • Proficiency with enterprise finance and payroll software interfaces.
  • Technical risk assessment and tax governance training methodologies.
