Job Summary
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Open Source Analytics team, you’ll own the end-to-end development of Snowflake's open and interoperable data lake ecosystem.
Your job is to build next-generation capabilities on top of critical lakehouse building blocks and establish strong, collaborative relationships with the global open-source software (OSS) community.

Key Responsibilities
Open Source Contribution: Pioneer innovative technical capabilities by contributing production-grade code, reviewing pull requests, and participating in Apache community discussions.
Feature Implementation: Design and implement high-performance features for Apache Iceberg and Apache Polaris, including DML/DDL transactions, schema evolution, and time travel.
System Integration: Architect and build robust systems that seamlessly integrate open-source lakehouse technologies with Snowflake’s core AI Data Cloud.
Governance & Control: Develop and optimize core data access control, compliance, and security governance features for Apache Polaris.
Managed Service Evolution: Contribute to Snowflake Open Catalog, enabling enterprise customers to manage data lakes using external engines like Spark and Trino.
Automated Maintenance: Build services and tooling that automate crucial data lake table maintenance, such as compaction, clustering, and data retention.
Experience & Qualifications
Software Engineering Background: Proven experience in designing, architecting, and deploying highly scalable distributed systems and data infrastructure.
Open Source Track Record: A consistent history of contributing to and collaborating within major open-source communities (preferably Apache Iceberg, Polaris, Parquet, or Arrow).
Enterprise Tech Familiarity: Strong working knowledge of query engines, file formats, interoperable table formats, and REST specifications.
Security & Data Compliance: Deep understanding of enterprise data access control, data governance, and secure data planning.
Innovation Mindset: Demonstrated ability to rapidly test emerging capabilities, solve complex analytical challenges, and build cost-optimized systems.
